We've been swatching for months. After an hour, we still couldn't find one that complimented my yellow-green undertones or our editorial assistant Jesa Calaor's deeper red undertones. And then someone suggested Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution Lipstick in Very Victoria.
Of course! I thought. It's the warm, brownish-rose I've been wearing since Charlotte first unveiled it three years ago. Which, by the way, is a big deal. I tend to like darker, brighter lip colors, so my personal bar for a nude lipstick is very high. I've only found three I've liked in my entire career as a beauty editor: this one, Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrance Lipstick in Venus in Furs, and Dior Rouge Dior in Hypnotic Matte.
And I'm not the only one obsessed with the shade. Rumor has it that a certain duchess with the initials M.M. also relies on it for her Cali-casual-goes-royal beauty look.
But the question remained: Would it be the first neutral lipstick out of the 40 we tried that looked good on Jesa, too? Happily, the answer is yes. It was a touch rosier on her, but still flatteringly neutral. Add that to the fact that it stays creamy all day long, has a gorgeous velvety-matte finish, and smells just a little like cocoa butter, and it's the total (rose-gold) package. | | | | Subscribe to Allure magazine | | | Get the Allure Beauty Box | | | ©2018 Condé Nast.
