Last week Steve Bannon told our editors that Donald Trump would serve an unconstitutional third term. On Monday Mr Trump said, “I would love to do it—I have the best numbers ever.” We have an update on those numbers. They’re not the best ever. Far from it.

Elsewhere, the “storm of the century” has made landfall in Jamaica. Hurricane Melissa is one of the strongest ever recorded, with wind speeds reaching 185mph (298kph). Its slow movement is making matters even worse.
