As we approach the festive season, I wanted to let you know about some exciting developments at Halfords, which mean that we are better placed than ever to support you through the Winter months, and beyond. | | | Last week we welcomed the National Tyre and Autocare garage chain into the Halfords family. As a result, I’m delighted to say we now have a total of 604 garages and 235 Halford Mobile Expert vans across the UK, providing all types of garage services such as tyre fitting, MOTs, repairs and servicing.
This means the majority of UK households are now within a 20-minute drive of one of our garages.
What’s more, combined with our 404 stores offering motoring fits and repairs, I’m proud to say we are now the UK’s biggest vehicle services, maintenance and repair business.
What many people don’t know, is that we are able to offer products, fits and services for all makes of vehicle: from Polos to Porsches and Fiestas to Ferraris, and usually on average at 20% less than a main dealer would charge.
In addition, we are seeing more and more hybrid and electric cars visiting our garages, matching the growth in ownership. In fact, this year we’ve seen over 120% more of these vehicles come to Halfords versus last year, with the number of Teslas in our garages growing 94% since last year.
Over the last five years, our business has changed significantly, rapidly expanding both the breadth and availability of the services we can offer to keep your car roadworthy.
We’ve seen an increasing desire from our customers to have motoring jobs such as: dash cam fittings, tyre changes, windscreen repairs and oil changes, carried out at home on the driveway, or at work. For this reason, we’ve expanded our Halfords Mobile Expert van fleet, growing from just one van three years ago, to well over 200 today. | | | The technical expertise of our colleagues is undoubtedly our greatest asset. We are investing millions of pounds in training, to ensure our colleagues have the know-how and expertise to fit everything you need: from bulbs and wiper blades to roof bars and child seats.
With the government’s ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2030 fast approaching, we will be investing in our new garages to ensure we have technicians in all locations trained to support motorists who are making the switch to an electric or hybrid car. Across the group we are on track to train 2,000 colleagues to service electric cars, bikes and scooters this year, and doubling that number in 2022.
Of course, electric vehicles make up only a small part of the car fleet right now. With fewer new cars being sold, the average age of a car on UK roads is heading towards 9 years, and while reliability has improved a lot, it’s an unavoidable fact that older cars are more likely to develop faults.
With the addition of National to our team, we now have 7,500 colleagues ready to service every type of vehicle, so whatever you drive, you’ll be in good hands. Our Trustpilot scores reflect this, with 4.6 out of 5 for our garages and 4.8 for Halfords Mobile Experts.
Finally, with Christmas only two weeks away, I’m pleased to say we have plenty of fantastic gifts for all the family. We have hundreds of thousands of kids' bikes and scooters in stock that you can reserve a collection slot for, and they come prebuilt to avoid the hassle of building on Christmas Day. We also have brilliant gifts ideas for motoring enthusiasts including car cleaning gift sets, tool sets, car tech such as dash cam bundles, and much more.
