Where to glamp in Hawaii, the best Swedish radio station, zooming through US customs, the toaster wallet, ‘70s-inspired country music, and more…
Start your day off right with the latest edition of The Rundown — catching up with Art of Manliness founder and longtime pal, Brett McKay, our own talented Mark King, and the master of California-cool and SeaVees founder, Steven Tiller. Pour yourself a cup’a Joe and dive on in.

Most Influential Author: Larry McMurtry. I’ve read Lonesome Dove four times. It’s my favorite book. It’s the American Odyssey. I even named my son Gus after Augustus McCrae. Great lessons on grit, courage, love, and friendship. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll be sad that the book is over when you’re finished. The television mini-series is top-notch, too. Great for a Netflix binge.

Favorite Guest I’ve Had on My Podcast: Cal Newport, author of So Good They Can’t Ignore You and Deep Work. He’s got such great insight into the power of focused work in a distracted world. Check out episodes 78 and 168

Words to Live By: Be useful; not important.

Favorite Huckberry Purchase: Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket. Great for those cool springs and falls. Classic, rugged, American look.

Article I’ve Written That Deserves Another Read: We did an entire series on the biology, psychology, and philosophy of male social status over three years ago. The status drive impacts people's day-to-day lives and sense of well-being in huge ways that most people overlook and don't understand. We think we're not supposed to care about status, but it's so deeply ingrained that it's impossible not to — it's better to learn how to harness that drive in healthy ways than to pretend it's not important.

What's on My Wishlist: The Secrid Slimwallet. Always wanted a wallet that could shoot out my credit cards like toast from a toaster.

Most Rewarding AoM Moment: We receive lots of letters from men who say AoM has helped them in different ways, from learning how to shave and dress, to becoming socially confident, starting to lift weights, and even deciding to join the military. The most touching, however, was finding out that we helped a few of our guys deal with the death of a parent. It's amazing to know we've been able to give and assist in those most difficult of times.

Favorite New Discovery: Midland. It’s a country band based out of Austin. They actually sound like a country band, and do it with 1970s swagger, which — you heard it here first — is on the cusp of a comeback.

If I had $500 to Blow on Huckberry: Erstwhile Map. What’s handsomer than an old-school map hanging in an office?

Absolute Favorite Huckberry Brand: My entire wardrobe is pretty much Flint and Tinder at this point. Everything looks and feels great, plus, I love that it’s all made right here in the US of A.

Morning Ritual: Wake up every day absurdly early for some quality me time. There’s inspiration in that special kind of predawn quiet that gives you an edge towards any challenge awaiting you.

Top Travel Hack: I’ve started taking my TRX everywhere I travel. You can’t always count on a hotel pool or fitness center, but you’re guaranteed a killer workout if you pack your TRX.

Rules to Dress By: I live by the over/under rule. If a social occasion calls for casual attire, show up slightly overdressed. For a dressy affair, make a statement by slightly underdressing. You’ll find you can own most social dress codes with a great-fitting oxford shirt, like the Flint and Tinder Soft Washed Oxford, and a timeless, dressy sneaker (insert SeaVees plug here).

Under-appreciated App: Mobile Passport. Gets you through the current sh*t-show that is US Customs as quickly as possible.

Book That’s Influenced You Most: Education of a Wandering Man by Louis L’Amour. An adventurous memoir of his lifelong love affair with learning. I read it in my early 20s and went from struggling through a handful of books a year to devouring hundreds.

Next Huckberry Purchase: Can’t wait to add this Taylor Stitch Ojai Jacket to my lineup of navy jackets.

Recently Surprised By: The beauty and chill of Costa Rica. After a recent trip, Playa Guiones has become one of my favorite spots on the planet.

If I Had $500 to Blow on Huckberry: I need to upgrade my travel gear game. For luggage, I have my eye on the Mystery Ranch Mission Wheelie. And for my overnight flights, I could definitely use the 19-hour battery life and the comfortable over-ear design of the B&O H4 Wireless Headphones.

Current SeaVees Rotation: I’ve been living in the Legend Sneaker Saltwash in Cream Camo and the Huntington Middie in Greyboard Suede we did exclusively for Huckberry.

Favorite Music to Work To: Jag alskar P3, the Swedish radio station. When I was road-tripping around Sweden a few years ago, we listened to it everyday. They play tunes that haven’t gotten big in the US yet, so if you want to get ahead on some music, here you go — varsågod (you’re welcome).

Book That Had a Huge Influence on Me: You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. It gave me a good kick in the ass and motivated me to continue pursuing my career in fashion.

Favorite Huckberry Purchase: Flint and Tinder Black Stonewashed Jeans. My go-to pair of black jeans — and I own a lot of black jeans.

Life Hack: Hot Sauce. Hands down. I keep a bottle in my backpack.

Top 3 Bucket List Locations: People-watching in Japan — I’ve always been inspired by the fashion there. Going to Iceland in the fall to see the Northern Lights, and laying out on the beaches in Spain.

Favorite Place to ‘Glamp’: Camp Olowalu in Maui. They have the coolest tentalows (tent + bungalow) perfect for glamping. You get a private outdoor shower and a front porch that’s ideal for stargazing.

Next Huckberry Purchase: The Suede Long Haul Jacket — so badass.

I’m Creatively Inspired When: Watching the collections of my favorite designers during Fashion Week, Han Kjøbenhavn and Odeur Studio. I also get inspired whenever I’m out in nature, hiking or fishing. I love all the details that you can find in trees or the silhouettes of nature.

Favorite Brand on Huckberry Right Now: Wild Standard — they make dope minimal flags. I’m loving the all-blacked out ones.

If I had $500 to Blow on Huckberry: I’d go for the Black Red Wing Chelsea Boots and the Tan Bitflex. They both look great with black denim, so they’d fit perfectly with my everyday wardrobe.

The famous Grotte Von Pula off the coast of Croatia sure is hard to get to, but we think it’s worth it.
