Our favorite running shoes right now

Hello ,

I can't believe we halfway through the year already! How are you doing with your new year's resolutions?

Personally, I'm behind with my goal of a book a month, having read only "a gentleman in Moscow" and "Cibola Burn" so far... but I'm catching up.

I wanted to thank all of you who helped us out with feedback on our Wizard: it's far from perfect but thanks to a lot of suggestions we are improving it.

Let's talk running shoes.

For complete beginners

If a total beginner came to me asking me for a running shoe to start running - where I know they won't be running more than 5k for a long time, and that they might not want to spend a fortune, I would recommend the Nike Winflo 11 or the Asics Dynablast 4

Need a daily trainer?

When we look at daily trainers, my first choice goes to the Asics Cumulus 26 or the Adidas Supernova Rise. This last one you can find online for less than $100 right now - a steal.

If you need some support in your daily trainer, I recommend the New Balance X 860 v14 or the Saucony Guide 17.

Max Cushioned trainers

The busiest category is the max cushion trainer. Everyone now wants their sole to be marshmallow-soft and brands are delivering.

There is really a ton of choice, but if we had to narrow it down, Asics Nimbus 26 is my choice. The New Balance Vongo v6 would be my recommendation for a supportive max cushioned trainer.

There are many others which are good - like the Puma Magnify Nitro 2 - but these are my choices.

Lightweight, speed trainers

We really enjoyed the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4, which is extremely lightweight and excels at any pace faster than easy. If you prefer a fast trainer without carbon plate, try the Asics Magic Speed 3.

Racing short distances

For racing a 5k, 10k or half-marathon we recommend the Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris, particularly for half-marathons or the adidas Adizero Takumi Sen 10, particularly for shorter races.

For racing marathons

Every brand has released at least one carbon-plated marathon racer super-shoe. This is probably the hardest category to give advice for, because when you are talking about racing a marathon and shaving off a few minutes, it is the details that count and those details tend to be very personal.

The Nike Alphafly 3 is expensive, but it delivers consistently on 4 fronts: it's lightweight, firm, stable and efficient. Drawback: it's somewhat narrow and can irritate wide or flat feet.

The New Balance SuperComp Elite v4 is fun, fast and stable. It's soft and cushioned for a marathon racer and it's a great first super-shoe. Give them a try!

Last, the best Hoka racer is still the Hoka Rocket X2.

Well.... here it is! Hope some of these suggestions will help you choose your next shoe.

If you want to help us (we buy all the shoes ourselves and it's really expensive!) please forward this email to your running friends. Is it a tough time for websites like ours and any new person that discovers us helps tremendously!

Thank you!
