The Leather Desk Set | Simplicity is Key

While most Saddleback designs are made in chrome-tanned leather, there are a few things we make using a pretty special vegetable-tanned leather I call Old Bull Leather. At about 3/16” thick, It’s some of the thickest and toughest leather I’ve been able to find. It’s really hard to work with. It doesn’t bend that easily, and it’s so tough it mostly has to be sewn by hand. It’s as strong and ornery as an Old Bull.

But with a little respect for the qualities of the leather, some pretty cool things can be made, like the new Old Bull Leather Desk set. I designed it with no seams or stitching or rivets or anything that would take away from the simple beauty of the hide. Each piece in the set is just a single whole piece of leather that is going to look really good on your desk. It will keep things from scratching your desk, and has just the right about of ‘bounce’ for hand-writing letters and notes.

The set includes a Normal Mouse Pad, a Large Mouse Pad (for gamers, designers, etc.), and a Desk Pad. This leather will patina beautifully with age and use. It’s going to really start looking good after about 20 years of use, so you might as well get started today.

Also, inspired by the simplicity of the new Old Bull set, I went back and tweaked our original Desk Set. It’s a lot simpler now.
