This Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and by association the unofficial start of grilling season. It’s time for all the very best burgers and perfectly done steaks you can handle. But while grills and meat are definitely a match made in summer heaven, you'll be missing out on a whole world of grilling opportunity if you just stick to chicken and beef.

Consider the grilled cocktail, for instance. As Leslie Pariseau writes, “There are few things more American than grilling. And as it happens, there are few inventions more American (and ingenious) than the cocktail. So it's only fitting that we, as headstrong and curious citizens of this great country, would think to marry the two.” Try a grilled pineapple margarita, because there’s really no way to go wrong there.

Then there’s an entire world of grilled sides, even salads—yep, we’re going there. You can give your romaine a healthy char or throw your watermelon over some charcoals for a while. The recipes themselves are easy-peasy and will go perfectly with that steak you had already cooked up.

Think you can’t grill dessert too? Think again. Grill your strawberries. Grill your peaches and your plums (and then eat them with burrata). Even grill your cantaloupe! The moral of the story is to be bold when it comes to grilling. It’ll only make your meal more awesome.
