Saffron Orange Ice Cream

All Our Favorite Frozen Treats

When the temperature breaks 80 degrees, nothing brings relief from the heat quite like a popsicle straight out of the freezer. And while we love a poolside Fla-Vor-Ice as much as anyone, we also like to create our own fruity pops and frozen treats from around the world.

It’s a universally accepted fact that ice cream is a go-to snack for summer. The SAVEUR test kitchen has more ice cream recipes than we can count, so check out some of our favorites, like saffron and orange or pandan coconut. For a caffeinated twist, you can even try Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream. Don’t be intimidated by the task of making ice cream at home; with our 10 tricks to make the best ice cream, it’s actually very easy. When your sweet treat is finished in the freezer, pop it in a Pizzelle Waffle Cone that tastes like it came straight from Italy.

If you are looking for something a little more unique than ice cream, try solkadi, an Indian kokum and coconut frozen drink that pairs perfectly with dishes that include bold spices. Or try the classic Mexican ice pops called paletas. You can find dozens of different flavors, but one of our favorites is arroz con leche. And then, of course, there's always the milkshake route. Keep it classic, or go for a bright, herbal taste, with a creamy South African Avocado Mint Shake. And while eating beans and rice for dessert may sound strange, these mochi balls from Japan will convert you in no time.

No matter how you plan to triumph over the heat and humidity as summer shines on, don’t forget to show us how you #cooktheworld with your own frosty goodies.
