Fall gardening tips for a productive, cool garden

Yes, it may be a bit early to dream about planning next spring’s garden and starting next year’s seeds. But did you know that there are still several crops you can plant now for a hearty harvest before winter temperatures arrive?

That’s right—many plants will flourish when planted in late summer and will continue to thrive into late fall and early winter. That includes root vegetables like beets, carrots, and radishes as well as leafy vegetables like kale, lettuce, and spinach.

 

Fall gardening, or second plantings. Whatever you call this late-summer pursuit, its goal is the same—to prolong the growing season and reap more from your precious garden, even after summer’s peak. Enjoy these tips for extending the harvest of this year’s garden.
