Giorgio Armani will descend on New York City this week for the first time since 2016. He’s alighting in town to christen 760 Madison Avenue the new home of the Giorgio Armani Residences and an Armani/Ristorante, as well as Giorgio Armani and Armani/Casa boutiques. At 90, after nearly 50 years in business, he’s still in expansion mode. He’ll also present his spring 2025 collection at a black-tie fashion show and party for fashion insiders and bold-faced names.
As this 1992 Tad Friend-penned profile of the Italian designer in Vogue reveals, Armani’s trademark mix of sophistication and ease has always captivated celebrities. “Wearing Armani in Hollywood makes no statement, no, no,” Donald Sutherland told Friend. “It makes you look individual and terrific. And everyone in Hollywood wants to look as individual and terrific as possible.” The late actor was quite particular about his tailoring, as it happens. Clutching the lapel of his dark blue Armani suit, he said, “On every other designer’s jacket there’d be a bump here, but with Armani never. He captures the flow of the human body.” |
