For today’s episode of The Run-Through, I spoke to Daniel Roseberry of Schiaparelli, who picked up the CFDA’s International Designer of the Year Award last night, which Laia Garcia-Furtado reported on here. Roseberry, who’s transformed Schiaparelli from a “sleeping beauty” into a brand with that “punches above its weight” in his five years at the Paris label, was thoughtful on many subjects, from his red carpet strategy to his advice for students to how he copes with homesickness for New York. The Thomas Crown Affair reboot wardrobed by Céline-era Michael Kors ruined the original for him. “I remember watching it years after and I was like, this is garbage. The remake was so much more satisfying for me,” he says. On the subject of Nicolas Ghesquière’s fall 2008 Balenciaga, the one that opened with three little black dresses and closed with hand-painted jeans, he was equally evocative. “It broke my brain, I couldn’t unsee it.” More on the podcast! |
