It takes no small amount of confidence to dub your collection Icarus, the mythological Greek figure who flew too close to the sun and paid the ultimate price for it. But Schiaparelli’s Daniel Roseberry was drawn to the name, precisely because of the risk involved. “We’ve done the break-the-internet thing,” he told Sarah Mower backstage. This season, he wanted a technical challenge, and so he set out to create the classical proportions of haute couture’s golden age with modern materials and experimental techniques. “Couture,” Mower wrote in her review, “is at its best when it looks to the past and then transforms it into something that’s never been done before,” and “Roseberry’s collection really took off in the moments when he did that.” See all the pictures. |
