Spring is the time for graduate collections from design schools. In the coming weeks, we’ll see—and review—student work from Parsons, Pratt, RISD, and beyond. New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology kicked things off last week and, as usual, Laird Borrelli-Persson was there. Laird reports, “I was surprised at how safe most of the clothes looked—there was little of the wackiness that one anticipates at student shows.” That said, “there were a number of students working in the best tradition of Seventh Avenue whose designs looked ready for the shop floor.” Conveniently, Macy’s, which sponsored the show, will put some of the students’ work into production. |
