‘Tis the season, and as such, we’re sharing a gift from Vogue circa 1949: downloadable holiday stencils, designed by Hungarian illustrator Marcel Vertès. Much more recently (as in earlier this month) we examined the style of NYC’s Christmas tree sellers; a master class in layers and wearing plaid with aplomb. Of all the pieces we looked back on though, Lisa Kudrow’s personal essay of a Christmas gone awry topped our must-share list.
We don’t want to give too much away, but imagine longing to celebrate Christmas (your Jewish family never did), falling in love with a man who does celebrate it, and your first Christmas together being, as today’s youth would say, a total flop. Such was the case for Kudrow in the mid-90s, and she hilariously recounted the ordeal for Vogue.
We sincerely hope the actor’s holidays have improved since then, and may yours be merry and bright. |
