It feels fitting that in a week in which Woolmark announced its 2025 winner and the LVMH Prize shared the eight finalists for this year’s competition, we’re also talking about the inaugural cohort of Abloh Air. The new program launched by the Virgil Abloh Foundation gave 10 lucky students from Chicago, the late designer’s hometown, a chance to meet makers and founders across disciplines from fashion to music, and art to architecture, in London and Paris, giving them a leg up so that one day they too could be vying for awards at design competitions. Shannon Abloh, Virgil’s wife, is the driving force behind Abloh Air. She told reporter Amy Verner, “I want to see them be in the same rooms that [Virgil] was in, and I want to see them break down the same doors that he did and be at those tables and have a show like he did in Paris, and just have all their friends around—it would just become a moment.” Read Amy’s exclusive coverage of the immersive experience. |
