Laird Borrelli-Persson had a pinch-me moment this week when she interviewed Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran about the pair of new fragrances the band is launching. As a child of the 1980s, she liked all five members of the British pop group, but Nick was her favorite. “He was the most adventurous,” she says of the keyboard player. I was a John Taylor girl, but I read her interview with Nick eagerly. Not only did he reveal his own favorite scents, but he had a go at why the ’80s are trending, revealing himself to be quite a student of fashion in the process. “You had Thierry Mugler and Claude Montana in Paris, and you had Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto, you had Vivienne Westwood continuing with the crazy stuff in the UK, you had Giorgio Armani and Versace coming up in Italy, and in America you had Calvin Klein, who was really starting to shape something new,” he told Laird. “People want a different world and people want to show their individuality now, and that was very much part of the ’80s.” |
