The rumor mill believes Apple will introduce a Sky Blue iPhone 17 Pro in 2025, and there’s even talk of an alleged iPhone 17 Pro that’s expected to follow. President Trump’s tariffs, meanwhile, remain a looming threat for Apple and tech companies. In terms of software, Apple Intelligence could benefit from recent restructuring efforts within Apple.
Here’s what happened during the past week, and why it matters. |

The iPhone 17 Pro could launch in a familiar-looking Sky Blue, if a dubious claim is to be believed. The Sky Blue color is currently only available on the iPad Air and MacBook Air, so the top-of-the-line iPhone seems like an unlikely candidate.
According to a repeat rumor, a budget-oriented iPhone 17e is also in the works, and it may soon enter trial production. The source claims the iPhone 17e will debut in 2026. TSMC, meanwhile, announced a new 1.4nm chip process, which we could see in 2028 with the iPhone 19.
Our take: A Sky Blue iPhone 17 Pro seems far-fetched. It’s not impossible, but the source’s track record leaves plenty of room for doubt. Details about the rumored iPhone 17e are scarce, making it unclear when the device will reach store shelves, if at all.

President Trump promised to "set the tariff" on entities that don't make deals with the U.S. in the next couple of weeks. For some, the previously implemented 90-day tariff pause will end sooner than expected, which could impact Apple’s production in India and Vietnam.
Apple has secured a temporary tariff exemption thanks to CEO Tim Cook and his interactions with Trump — a move that Senator Elizabeth Warren scrutinized. Still, the company plans to diversify its supply chain by moving manufacturing from China to India.
Our take: Apple’s tariff exemption is set to end in a matter of weeks, but it may be extended well into the future if Trump and Cook reach another agreement. The Trump administration has plans for a semiconductor tariff, which may ultimately lead to increased iPhone prices in the fall.

In an attempt to bring Apple Intelligence back on track, the company’s Siri team has been changed. People who worked on the existing Siri system are being sidelined in favor of employees who developed the Apple Vision Pro.
Siri’s once-promised Apple Intelligence features are still not here, and that has caught the attention of the BBB National Programs' National Advertising Division. Apple was asked to remove or alter the “Available Now” claim from its Apple Intelligence page, as NAD deemed it “unqualified.
Our take: Apple has taken its Siri debacle seriously, as evidenced by the reshuffling of the Siri development team. The company is also presenting research papers at a major AI conference in Singapore, indicating that artificial intelligence improvements are in the works.

The European Union has fined Apple $570 million for not complying with the bloc’s Digital Markets Act. According to the EU. This is around 70% less than the fines imposed in a previous EU antitrust case against Apple.
The EU likely tried to avoid a tariff war escalation by imposing a reduced fine. Even so, the White House was quick to call the $570 million fine “economic extortion” that “will not be tolerated by the United States.”
Our take: Apple reportedly plans to file an appeal, so the outcome of the antitrust case remains to be seen. The company may be forced to make additional App Store changes in the EU, depending on how things progress.
