BOOKING CONNECTING ROOMS |
My parents usually booked two hotel rooms when I was younger — one for me and one for them. We traveled a lot, as I played competitive golf around the southeastern U.S.
We mostly stayed at family-friendly budget brands, but I don't remember ever having issues getting connecting rooms. Nor do I remember calling ahead to request connecting rooms.
But the times have seemingly changed. TPG editor Caroline Lascom recently examined why it is difficult to book connecting rooms by comparing the process at four different hotel brands.
After doing so, she concluded that "Whenever I need connecting rooms ... I will be checking out all Hilton hotel options first." After all, in June 2021, Hilton began allowing travelers to guarantee connecting rooms when booking online. And, as I found at the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton in Penang, Malaysia (pictured above), some Hiltons are very family-friendly.
As a traveler who now only needs one room, I actively avoid connecting rooms because of the noise that can creep under the locked door. But if you travel as a family, here are some stories to check out: |
