WWDC 2025 is just around the corner, but we’ve heard more about Apple’s hardware plans this week. Apple smart glasses and camera-equipped AirPods are said to be in the works. whereas OpenAI is developing a wearable AI-themed device. The ever-popular Fortnite, meanwhile, is once again available to iPhone gamers in the United States.
Here’s what happened during the past week, and why it matters. |

After weeks of speculation, OpenAI has revealed it purchased “io,” an AI-themed startup founded by Sam Altman and former Apple design chief Jony Ive. The deal, worth $6.5 billion, could eventually result in a wearable AI-themed product, such as a necklace, by 2027.
"We're not going to ship 100 million devices literally on day one," Altman reportedly said. But he continued that OpenAI would ship that number of devices "faster than any company has ever shipped 100 million of something new before."
Our take: OpenAI’s acquisition of the startup is a bit of an odd choice, given io’s goal of creating physical AI-themed devices. The deal is set against a backdrop of repeated failure, as virtually every implementation of an AI companion product so far has flopped. It’s hard to believe that an OpenAI wearable would succeed where the Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1 did not.

Pages for the Mac is often seen as a rather basic word processor, but things aren’t always as they seem. While Microsoft Word proudly puts its various features on display via an in-app toolbar, Pages takes a different approach that, instead, focuses on simplicity.
Many of the features and options within Pages are neatly tucked away. Thanks to this week’s newsletter-exclusive guide, though, you won’t have to spend even a minute looking for them. Check it out!

Apple wants to introduce its long-rumored smart glasses in late 2026, according to a recent report. They’ll supposedly feature cameras, microphones, and a new chip for advanced Apple Intelligence features.
Camera-equipped AirPods are also said to be in the works, but plans for a similar upgrade for the Apple Watch appear to have been abandoned.
Our take: Rumors of Apple smart glasses have been floating around for a while, and a 2026 release date lines up with previous claims. Apple wants to expand the availability of Apple Intelligence features across its product lines, and camera-equipped AirPods could be part of the process.

Fortnite is once again available to iOS gamers in the United States, and it looks like the never-ending Epic vs. Apple saga may finally be over. The two companies were involved in a legal battle that spanned more than four years.
Apple has decided to simply reinstate Fortnite rather than go through the trouble of further litigation. The two companies have agreed that an in-person court meeting surrounding the issue would be unnecessary.
Our take: Fortnite is now back for good on iPhones in the United States. The decision comes as a surprise given the two companies’ history, but gamers are undoubtedly happy about it.
