MY FAVORITE MARRIOTT HOTEL |

Last November, I was chatting with other TPG staffers at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa when the topic of favorite Marriott hotels came up.
Other staffers brought up properties in Marriott's luxury brands, but my immediate answer was Marriott's Protea Hotel Kruger Gate (pictured above), which is located just outside Kruger National Park in South Africa.
This property is perfect for an independent South African safari, as it's situated just outside the park's Paul Kruger Gate. And I love working remotely from the property, enjoying safaris in the morning and working during U.S. hours in the afternoon and evening.
You can drive to Kruger from Johannesburg or fly from Cape Town or Johannesburg into Skukuza's landing strip within the park. Airlink operates daily flights on both routes. Once at Skukuza Airport, you can pick up a Budget or Avis rental car to explore the park on your own.
The Protea Hotel Kruger Gate was a Category 2 property before Marriott eliminated its award charts, so you can redeem just 10,000 to 15,000 points per night through the end of 2022. This often provides excellent value given the property's high nightly cash rates.
