| Unveiling the updates | by Kyle Olsen, Points & Miles Reporter | | | The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® is undergoing changes, including new statement credits and improved miles- and Loyalty Points-earning opportunities. And if you’re a prospective cardholder, you can earn 100,000 American Airlines miles (worth $1,770 at TPG’s valuation) after you spend $10,000 on purchases within the first three months of card membership. The card also comes with an Admirals Club membership.
But it’s coming at the cost of higher annual fees:
- Annual fee for the primary cardholder: Increases from $450 to $595 (a $145 increase).
- Annual fee for authorized users: Previously free for up to 10 cardholders, it will be $175 for the first three and $175 apiece afterward.
If you’re wondering if it’s worth renewing your card, you’re not alone.
Although the card’s changes remain the subject of fierce debate in TPG’s offices, in my opinion, the best change to the card is the ability to earn a bonus of 10,000 Loyalty Points after reaching 50,000 Loyalty Points in a status qualification year. You can then earn another bonus of 10,000 Loyalty Points after reaching 90,000 Loyalty Points in the same status qualification year. That can make it much easier to qualify for American Airlines status.
