WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY 01/28/2019 ELITE STATUS VALUATION Each month, we release our updated points and miles valuations, helping better your understanding of how much each currency is worth. Once a year, we dive deep into each major airline's loyalty program, too, taking a very close look at each elite status tier and its perks. Our first batch of valuations is now live — so far, we've examined:
On the surface, Delta's Diamond Medallion tier scored the highest — with a total value of $8,685 — just barely edging out United Premier 1K ($8,560). You need to earn more elite-qualifying miles to qualify for Diamond than you do 1K, however, so we've assumed top Delta flyers travel a bit more to reach that level. How much you fly impacts the value substantially — be sure to keep that in mind as you're going through. We'd love to hear which status you're aiming for in 2019, and how you plan to get there. Even if you don't frequent Marriott properties, the SPG Amex's anniversary free night certificate should make it easy to get outsized value from its modest annual fee. The card's only available until Feb. 12, 2019, though, so you'll need to act fast if you want to grab it, or forever hold your peace.
Even after it's ended, the shutdown seems to have claimed another victim. If you booked the inaugural, be sure to arm yourself with this information before calling in to make any changes.
Amex continues to invest heavily in the customer experience, including unique perks like the Centurion Lounge network. With new locations opening soon and Amex expanding lounges where it can, it's easier than ever to get great value from the issuer's premium products.
Thankfully, a tornado barreling across the runway isn't something we come across every day. Sources say the storm injured 12 passengers waiting to board, and damaged aircraft and ground equipment as well. It's pretty terrifying to watch.
One of the highest credit card bonuses we've ever seen has reached its final day — we don't know exactly when this 200,000-mile bonus will get pulled, so there's a chance it's still available right now. LOUNGE ACCESS You don't need to go all the way to the Maldives or Bora Bora to score your dream vacation in an overwater bungalow. In the TPG Lounge, member Kyle M. offered a suggestion for somewhere much closer to home: "I highly recommend Rosewood Mayakoba. The overwater lagoon suites are pretty sick and the resort is an amazing experience. Plus it's a short flight from the States!!" Have your own tips to share? Sound off in the TPG Lounge.
